The services sector has historically played a key role in the movement of tangible goods around the world. This lecture shows how the import and export of services is not a new phenomenon. A basic grasp of the historical trade in services around the world helps us to better understand the current opportunities available in providing a service at the global level.

After this session, we will be able to do the following:

  • Explain the role of the services trade on international trade in general;
  • Narrow down some key services if deciding on a service in which to specialize and export; and
  • Identify key services exports that may help our export business to grow and flourish.
